Shoes

Cycling shoes are one of the most important accessories for a rider. Specialty footwear for cycling might not have been as important when you got your first 10-speed, but these days there are notable differences in the performance of riders with the right cycling shoes. The good news is that Bob's Bike has a large selection of footwear for the avid cyclist.

We carry cycling shoes from brands like Specialized, Giant, Liv, Exustar and more.

One of the key differences between cycling shoes and other options are the soles. Cycling shoes often feature stiffer soles for protection from the pedals - this also helps for maximum energy transfer between the rider and the bike. Cycling shoes are often more lightweight and ventilated to help keep the foot cool and dry. For road bikes and some mountain bikes, there will be special fixing points in the cleat of the shoe to help ensure a secure fit.

If you need further guidance, our helpful staff is happy to answer any and all questions you might have. But, as a general rule of thumb here is what to look for in a cycling shoe as it pertains to the type of bicycle you're going to be riding.

Road Bikes

A good shoe for a road bike will have a stiff, and lightweight sole. Some options are made out of carbon fiber to help minimize weight. Typically, we recommend looking for ventilated uppers that can be fastened quickly with Velcro of a similar system.

Off-Road or Mountain Biking

Similar to a road biking shoe, off-road cycling should have a stiff and inflexible shoe albeit, not as stiff as a road bike. Mountain bike riders will want to keep an eye on power transfer between the shoes and the pedals of their bike. Typically off-road cycling shoes will have cleats and a more aggressive tread pattern in the event that dismounting the bike in rough terrain is required.

Always be sure to try a few pairs of shoes on before you make your purchase. Some brands will have different size nuances and it's incredibly important that the shoes fit snugly. If the foot is slipping around inside the shoe while you're pedaling this is a recipe for blisters and discomfort.
